Situation
After the 2023 delegation and COP28, Huawei names a small number of Global Ambassadors from the alumni of every country cohort. The role is a speaking one: representing the program to students, press, and industry rather than sitting in the audience.
Task
I was selected as one of 10 Global Ambassadors worldwide and as Asia-Pacific's Top 1 Seed, which meant carrying the program at events across the region for the year, both online and in person.
Action
I attended Seeds opening ceremonies, Innovation Day events, and the Asia-Pacific Digital Talent Summit in Nanning, China on 23 September 2024.
At the summit I took part in the cultural exchange at the Global Village in the morning, then joined the afternoon panel, "Connecting the Future: Elevating Digital Skills for Success Ahead", alongside industry leaders. The trip also included visits to technology companies in Shenzhen and Dongguan, my second time in China through the program.
Result
Two years of the program put me on stage in three countries and in front of audiences I would not otherwise have reached.
What I took from it: the gap between a country's digital talent and its opportunities is mostly a matter of who gets into the room. That is the same problem I keep working on, in a different form.
